A Small Letter For Our Big President

15 September 2021

Rodrigo Roa Duterte

President

Dear El Presidente

Sir, how are you doing? I sincerely hope you are in good health.

Since Covid has spread throughout our nation, many people have lost their jobs, we are unable to attend school, and many people are suffering, particularly the poor from the slums and others who live below the poverty line. Please put something in place for the people's benefit; make it stricter, but not too strict for the townspeople's comfort. We beg you to invest in and promote vaccinations above everything else to help our economy and morale. Anything for eradicating the coronavirus disease.

Also, one thing I don't like about you, Mr. President, is your lack of sensitivity when it comes to cussing. We are taught to respect one another at home. There are some words that must not be spoken. On sometimes, I get a glimpse of you on television. I'm annoyed by the way you swear and disparage others. Take things lightly, be 100 percent fit as a fiddle, and don't lose your mind. Do you believe that as president, you should be a role model for excellent manners and proper conduct? I hope you will modify and improve your attitude, and if you do, I will probably appreciate you even more than before.

You done a lot for our nation, both good and terrible, but the negative things stick with me more since they have greater impact. Yes, I agree with your goal of a drug war, but I disagree with how you're going about it. The so-called "war on drugs" campaign is destroying human rights; additionally, I assume you forgot that convicts are people, right? The government has acknowledged the number of extrajudicial executions, which exceeds 6000, yet I find this morally repugnant.

The current epidemic is your best opportunity to improve your reputation, demonstrate your talents as a great nation's leader, and show your real colors. You and the government res
ponded poorly to the pandemic crisis, and now our country's inhabitants are paying the price for your and the government's incompetence. The Philippines is one of the nations that has yet to resume face-to-face classrooms, and the number of people who have been vaccinated has not grown.

With all due respect, please listen to me, to us, to everybody who needs help.

Thank you,

Aamer Jiro Macoto
